Beginning yesterday afternoon and continuing through most of today I’ve been spending my time replacing my deck. I actually worked on the steps all day yesterday and about four hours today. After seeing my granddaughter walking on the existing deck below the steps, I decided that it needed to be replaced too. I knew this, but I didn’t want to spend the money right now. Now here’s the problem, I have to remove the steps that I’ve spent all this time constructing. And these are huge steps! They require a lot of cuts and a lot of patience. Do you know what’s the best tool for working on a deck? I believe it’s a friend. I have had some friends help me out lately with a lot of things, so I decided to do this on my own. That was a mistake! I currently have about half of my deck ripped up, half the steps still in place, no replacement wood yet because my van will only carry about 15 boards at a time, and I’m feeling like I have bit off a bit too much. I’ll just take it a day at a time and just do what I can. Slowly but surely I get the project finished. And then I can finally relax. (Yeah, right) Then I have a driveway to pour, front post to replace, a fence to install, wallpaper to remove and only Deena knows what else.
Tonight I began reading a book on how to study the bible. Why you might ask? Because our small group has decided to just start studying the bible and someone made a comment last week that they wished they knew how to study the bible. So I thought for the first couple of weeks, we would begin by looking at how to study the bible so we can get the most out of it. In other words, so our lives can be changed and we can succeed. I want people to love reading and studying God’s word. I want people listening to God and expecting Him to speak to them through His word. I actually bought a couple of books to read, so over the next couple of weeks, I’ll give you some posts on what I’m learning about how to study God’s word.
