Over the past two weeks I have been studying the book of Isaiah. Let me share some of the insights that God has shown me. First of all, when I think of a prophet, I’m thinking of someone who is predicting the future. Someone who is foretelling what’s going to happen. However, what I have discovered is that the prophets of the Old Testament did more forthtelling than foretelling. In other words, they were confronting the people of God concerning their own personal relationship with God more than they were predicting the future. Two thirds of their preaching was forthtelling and only one third foretelling. Isaiah was called the watchman of Israel. He watch over their spiritual condition and helped them to turn their hearts toward God. The first 39 chapters in the book of Isaiah deals with Israel’s sin and disobedience toward God. Isaiah warned them of God’s judgment if they did not turn back toward God. We might do good to read and apply the truth Isaiah’s teachings. The great thing about God is that He’s always willing to forgive and welcome us back. No matter how bad you have blow it this week, God still loves you and He wants you back in fellowship with Him. Why not return to God? Why not turn your feet toward Him and beginning waling in His direction? You will be amazed by God’s grace.
